In response to the ongoing pandemic, we will be producing a short, mostly unscripted, no-frills daily podcast series: “Social Insect Distancing”. We hope that learning a little about ants will provide cross-species comfort for anxious human readers!

How did you know I’m eating my breakfast off an ant’s head? That’s creepy.

Did not know they ate pollen! I didn’t know ants ate pollen; i thought it was only flying insects like bees and butterflies! fantastic!

Do bees and butterflies have the same pollen-nomming gut bacteria? Or different little bactos that serve the same purpose?

This is an excellent question! We actually don’t know the antswer for sure, but believe it is likely they do.
